The story follows young people Paul Bäumer and his companions Albert and Müller, who willfully enroll in the German armed force, riding a rush of devoted enthusiasm that rapidly disperses once they face the merciless real factors of life on the front. Paul quickly loses his preconceived notions about the enemy and the advantages and disadvantages of the conflict. Paul, on the other hand, must continue fighting throughout the countdown to the armistice for the sole purpose of satisfying the top brass' desire to end the war with a German offensive.
